In June, a group of students from IES Jabalcuz High School from Jaén in southern Spain visited Lewes in East Sussex for a week’s language immersion trip.
After a long day travelling and a flight from Madrid the group received a warm welcome from their host families from Lewes and Seaford.
On Wednesday morning, the Spanish group headed into Priory School for some fun bilingual activities before the Spanish group headed into Lewes town for a Town Trail and a visit to the beautiful castle.
On Thursday, the Spanish students travelled up to London for a great day sightseeing taking in Buckingham Palace, Westminster and a river cruise along the Thames.
Friday saw the Spanish and English groups meeting up for more bilingual activities followed by an outing to Brighton where the Priory students were delighted to show their Spanish friends the sights and sounds of a seaside town – and its shops!
The Spanish group enjoyed a second day in London on Saturday – this time taking in the British Museum, Regents Park and Camden Market.
After a relaxing Sunday with their host families and a final day on Monday with more joint bilingual activities in school and a Scavenger Hunt in Lewes for the Spanish students in the afternoon, the two groups met up once again for a great fun disco evening in Lewes when friendships were cemented and promises to stay in touch made.
In the morning, the Spanish group were sorry to leave Lewes and their new friends but all promised to visit again next year and said how welcome the Priory students will be if they visit Jaén!
