On Monday 26 November a group of 48 students and 5 teachers set off by coach to Le Touquet in Northern France.
After a smooth and pleasant ferry crossing, the group visited the recently refurbished sealife centre, Nausicàa, in Boulogne before heading to Collège Jean Jaurès in Etaples to meet their French penpals.
The Speed Meeting activity flowed very well and the students overcame their initial shyness and were soon chatting in a wonderful mix of ‘franglais’!
Tuesday morning was when the Carousel of Bilingual Activities took place and saw students working together in their mixed bilingual teams on activities such as Bananagram, Toilet Paper Fashion and Pictionary. A perfect opportunity for more ‘franglais’ and bilingual team building.
Wednesday was the day trip to the musée Somme in Albert and a visit to the Christmas Market and a game of bowling in Amiens.
On Thursday the St Philip Howard students were given the task of buying and preparing their own lunch from the Le Touquet market; a mini French Master Chef experience! The afternoon was the Scavenger Hunt in bilingual teams, followed by a very successful disco.
Friday morning was the quiz at school with a meal in the school canteen with the French penpals before heading off for a shopping trip to Cité Europe en route for home.
A wonderful and unforgettable experience for all involved.
