Spanish Immersion Trip

Interaction with Spanish students is the key to a successful Spanish Immersion Trip.  The experience begins in England by having a Spanish Pen-Pal.  Once in Spain, the interaction with the Spanish Pen-Pals is through structured bilingual activities run by us in the Spanish High School and supervised social interaction out of the school.  The trip also includes many cultural and linguistic excursions.  Our Spanish Immersion Trips are all-inclusive and led by our very friendly and knowledgeable bilingual Reps.

‘I had the time of my life! The Spanish people are so friendly!'
Y10 student, Chichester FS
'We really had a great time in Jaén. Our students loved being Spanish for 5 days! Living the Spanish life and talking loads of Spanish! All the students are buzzing about it and it has definitely motivated some students to take Spanish for GCSE and A-level. Thanks for this!'
Head of MFL, Felpham CC
‘I found my accent and speaking confidence both improved!’

What's included

Spanish Pen-Pals

There is nothing more motivating when learning a foreign language, than wanting to communicate with your peers. Your students will benefit from getting to know a Spanish student of a similar age to themselves before, during and after the trip. This friendship will help them grow in confidence when communicating in Spanish and also to develop an emotional attachment to Spanish, thus motivating them to want to learn more!

Spanish School

Students spend at least one whole morning (09:30 – 13:30) in the Spanish High School with their Pen-Pals. This part of the trip is very popular with all students as they love to compare and contrast to their own school as they meet and get to know their Pen-Pals. The activities are organised and run by our Combination Languages team and we just ask you and your staff to support. Everything is carefully planned so that your students practise their Spanish and the Spanish students practise their English, meaning that everyone is in the same boat and that students can all help each other.

Fun Language Activities

Our Spanish Immersion Trips offer real educational value as they are jam packed with fun, linguistic activities. For example, our ‘Master Chef Jaén’ competition involves students putting their Spanish into real life practice to purchase ingredients from a local market to make their own lunch. The students are supported by our Trip Booklet so they can look up key vocabulary and phrases. The Scavenger Hunt and the Final Evening Party with the Spanish Pen-Pals, are always very popular and a good chance to interact in a more social setting. The party is a great way to end the experience with many hugs, tears and promises to stay in touch shared among the students.

Cultural and Linguistic Excursions

Some of the trips and visits take place just as an English school group, without the Spanish Pen-Pals, and these are times to visit local areas of interest such as Granada, Malaga and Seville. In Granada there is the chance to visit the stunning Alhambra Palace which never fails to impress students with its calm beauty. Guided walking tours of Malaga and Seville are excellent ways of broadening the students’ knowledge of Spain and its culture and our Tour Guides make the experience fun and interactive ensuring that the students’ attention is fully grabbed from start to finish. Andalusia is a spectacular area of Spain and we can’t wait to show it off to you and your students!

Friendly, Bilingual Tour Rep 24/7

Combination Languages is run by experienced teachers so we understand that a teacher’s workload can be very demanding and we think it’s important to have someone run your trip for you. Suzie or one of her team meet you at the airport in England* to make sure that you set off smoothly, then Tom or one of his team will meet you at the airport in Spain and lead all the activities so that you can focus on supporting your students and enjoying the experience yourself. We also give comprehensive administration support to all Trip Leaders with documents such as draft letters for parents, presentations for students and detailed Risk Assessments available, and by always being on hand to answer any questions.
*London airports only

TESTIMONIALS

Our teachers and students

Don't just take our word for it, see what our previous teachers and students have to say about their experience on this Spanish immersion trip.
'We had an amazing time in Andalusia. The students came back full of enthusiasm. The students spent a lot of time with the Spanish students so they could make friends and practise their Spanish. We all loved the cultural visits, such as the Alhambra, Granada and Jaen. We also had fun activities, like shopping, eating tapas, having a disco and a quiz night. We really liked the immersion in the Spanish lifestyle. Tom and Suzie planned everything and were always here to make sure the activities ran smoothly. All in all, a wonderful Spanish experience for all.'
Trip Leader, Cobham Free School
'We have used Combination Languages for our Spanish trips for years because our students make proper connections with their Spanish pen-friends. The games and team building exercises make it easy for students to connect with each other and use their language in a natural and playful setting. The feedback from our students is always very positive.'
